About:

Students and studnet athletes in grades 3-6 from Centre and Rhame Avenue schools joined with Captain Al from Operation SPLASH to clean up garbage and debris from the shoreline in Bay Park on May 14.

Prior to the event, Capital Al met with students and explained how pollution gets into our waterways through storm drains. Students were then given an opportunity to volunteer to help clean up the shoreline. During the clean up, the Nassau County Police Department Marine Bureau made a surprise appearance and allowed parents and students to tour the police boat. Some of the students, parents and teachers were able to take a ride on the SPLASH pontoon boat.

K-Kids adviser Sherina Lugo expressed her gratitude to the Rhame and Centre Avenue K-Kids Club members, students, teachers and parents for their service. She also thanked Operation Splash, Michael D’Ambrosio and the Nassau County Parks and Recreation Department, and The Nassau County Police Department Marine Bureau for helping to make the event a success.
